Just saw my first ever 2001 $5 note in person. It was given to me at a Hungry Jacks in change: https://www.moneytracker.com.au/note/177222.html Has anyone seen these circulating recently? I imagine they are quite rare to see in 2023, so to see this get handed to me in change today was certainly a shock. ![]() ![]() |

Looking back through my banknote list, haven't received one since 2011. Averaged a few per year in the late '00s (all of which I kept); given from memory the average lifespan of a $5 note in circulation is around 3-5 years, I reckon the only ones you can expect to see these days have been in the bottom of a drawer or overseas for a while before being put back into circulation. I registered over 300 notes last year and didn't even see one normal pre 2016 update $5 and only 2 pre 2017 $10, to give you an idea of the lifespan of lower value notes. ![]() |
